The Aqua Wing Arena ( Jap. 長野運動公園総合運動場総合市民プール, Nagano undōkōen Sogo undōjō Sogo Shimin Puru , German about: "sports park, sports field and municipal swimming pool Nagano") was used for the 1998 Winter Olympics in the district Yoshida built in Nagano , Japan . It is also under its original provisional name Ice Hockey B Kaijō ( ア イ ス ホ ッ ケ ー B 会場 , Aisu hokkē B kaijō , dt. "Ice hockey hall B") and due to its shape as an Aqua Wing ( ア ク ア ウ ィ ン グ , akua wingu , dt. "Water wing ") known.
history
Construction work on the arena began on October 12, 1995, and the stadium was finally opened in September 1997. This made it the last open venue for the upcoming games. The stadium was built on the site of a previously demolished public swimming pool, the area of the arena is 13,500 m². During the Olympic Games the official capacity of the hall was 6,000 spectators, but these, like the ice rink, were removed again after the major event.
Today the building is with closable roof as swimming - and Diving used -Zentrum. It currently offers 2,000 spectator seats and has a 50-meter and a 25-meter swimming pool as well as a diving platform. International competitions etc. a. can be played in swimming, water polo or synchronized swimming .
In addition to ice hockey hall B, ice hockey hall A , nicknamed Big Hat , was built for the games .
