Iizuna ( Japanese : 飯 綱 町 , -machi ) is a city in Kamiminochi-gun in the north of Nagano Prefecture on the Japanese main island of Honshū .
geography
11,956 people live in Iizuna on a community area of 75.31 km² (as of February 1, 2010). Neighboring municipalities are the major cities ( shi ) Nagano and Nakano and the city of Shinano , which also belongs to Kamiminochi-gun.
history
The city of Iizuna was founded on October 1st, 2005 by merging the villages ( mura ) Mure and Samizu. It was named after the mountain of the same name in the municipality. On July 16, 2007, the Niigata Chūetsu coastal earthquake in Iizuna reached a strong 6 on the JMA scale .
traffic
Iizuna has a connection to the Japanese railway network with Mure Station on the Shin'etsu Main Line ( JR East ).
The National Road 18 and the Jōshin'etsu Highway run through Iizuna . However, there is no connection point and no express bus stop in Iizuna.
Educational institutions
There are four elementary schools and one middle school in Iizuna, which are run by the city. The high school in Iizuna is run by the prefecture.
tourism
In Iizuna there is a local recreation area with the Iizuna plateau. The plateau is the starting point for mountain hikes in summer. In winter, winter sports can be practiced in the Iizuna Ski Resort ski area.
Sports
In Iizuna you will find the luge , skeleton and bobsleigh track Spiral . It is the only permanent luge, skeleton and bobsleigh track in Asia, as well as the only track with two uphill sections. The track was the competition route at the 1998 Winter Olympics in Nagano. After a construction period from 1993 to 1996, the railway received its homologation from the FIBT on March 28, 1996 . Over a length of 1360 m (start bobsleigh and skeleton) the ice channel has 14 curves and a difference in altitude of 113 m.
