It was planned to let Agematsu participate in the regional reform , from which the neighboring city of Kiso-machi emerged on November 1, 2005. However, the majority of the residents rejected participation in this regional reform on September 26, 2004 in a referendum in Agematsu, which means that Agematsu continues to exist as an independent local authority to this day.
