Lilium japonicum ( Japanese 笹 百合 , Sasayuri , German bamboo grass lily ) is a species from the genus of lilies ( Lilium ) in the oriental section .
description
Lilium japonicum reaches a height of 30 cm to 90 cm. The onions are round and reach a diameter of about 4 cm. They are covered with creamy white lanceolate scales. The stem is slender, like a bamboo shoot , which is where the Japanese name comes from. The leaves are narrow-lanceolate with a rough edge and are distributed over the stem.
The plant blooms from May to August with up to three horizontally standing, short trumpet-shaped flowers. The color of the flowers is dark pink or white. The anthers and pollen are reddish brown. The fruits are capsules , the seeds germinate delayed - hypogeic .
The number of chromosomes is 2n = 36.
distribution
Lilium japonicum is endemic on the island of Honshū in Japan , sporadically on Shikoku , in particular the Hyuga form on Kyūshū and the Ishima form on the Ishima island . It occurs there at altitudes from sea level to 1050 meters, usually on eastern or northern slopes between bamboo and rhododendrons .
Systematics
Lilium japonicum was first described by Carl Peter Thunberg in 1780 . Together with a few other species from Japan, it forms the Archelirion section of the genus. It hybridizes with some of these species ( Lilium rubellum , Lilium auratum and Lilium speciosum ).
