Nagawa ( Japanese : 長 和 町 , -machi ) is a city in Chiisagata-gun in Nagano Prefecture on the Japanese main island of Honshū . The city was created on October 1, 2005 as part of the amalgamation of the city of Nagato and the village ( mura ) Wada.

Nagawa borders the major cities ( shi ) Ueda , Matsumoto , Suwa and Chino as well as the city of Shimosuwa of Suwa-gun and the city of Tateshina of Kitasaku-gun . The Yoda and Daimon rivers flow through Nagawa. Nagawa is part of the Utsukushigahara plateau .

National Highways 142, 152, and 254 run through Nagawa. The portion of National Road 142 that passes through the Shinwada Tunnel is a toll road.
Nagawa has no connection to the Japanese rail network.
Educational institutions
The Nagato Municipal Elementary School and the Wada Municipal Elementary School are located in Nagawa. There is also the Wada municipal middle school. The Yodakubo Nambu Middle School is jointly supported by the cities of Nagawa and Ueda.
