Kitasaku-gun (Nagano)

Kitasaku-gun ( Japanese : 北 佐 久 郡 , German "North Saku-gun") is a district ( gun ) in Nagano Prefecture on the Japanese main island of Honshū . It has an area of ​​281.65 km², 40,121 inhabitants and a population density of 142 inhabitants per km² (as of March 1, 2010). The three cities ( machi ) Karuizawa , Miyota and Tateshina belong to it.

history

Kitasaku-gun was created on January 14, 1879 by dividing the old Saku-gun into Kitasaku-gun and Minamisaku-gun ("South Saku-gun"). The seat of the then district administration was Iwamurata. On April 1, 1889, two cities and 26 villages ( mura ) belonged to Kitasaku-gun. On August 1, 1923, the village of Higashinagakura was made a city and renamed Karuizawa. On May 8, 1942, Nishinagakura was merged with Karuizawa. In 1950, before the major territorial reform of the 1950s, Kitasaku-gun included three towns and 24 villages. The major regional reform of the 1950s finally brought about major changes in the municipal structure of the district. So were z. B. the city of Komoro district-free ( shi ) and the communities Miyota and Tateshina, which still belong to Kitasaku-gun today, were appointed cities. On April 1, 1961, the independent city of Saku was founded by merging two communities each from Kitasaku-gun and Minamisaku-gun . From April 1, 1961 to April 1, 2004, four towns and two villages belonged to Kitasaku-gun. Due to two further amalgamations on April 1, 2004 and April 1, 2005, the number of municipalities belonging to Kitasaku-gun fell to the current one.
