Matsumoto ( Japanese 松 本市 , - shi ) is a city in Nagano Prefecture in the center of Honshū , the main island of Japan .
Due to its high altitude, Matsumoto is not subject to such a hot and humid climate in summer as large parts of Japan. This makes it a center of wood processing and the center of Japanese guitar making.
history
On June 27, 1994, the Ōmu Shinrikyō sect (also known as Aum) carried out a poison gas attack ( sarin gas ) on the city, killing seven people and injuring 58 others.

The famous Japanese castle Matsumoto is in Matsumoto. Other sights include a. the Ukiyo-e Museum and the Kaichi School.

The largest manufacturer of guitars in Japan, the Fujigen company ( Fuji string instruments ) is based here, but there are also a lot of suppliers who deliver components, such as Gotoh for the hardware or Atlansia , known for handcrafted basses in an extravagant design, but also necks and deliver pickguards for well-known brands.
