history

Takayama Jin'ya

Historical evidence goes back to the 7th century. In the 16th and 17th centuries, the Kanamori ruled the Han Takayama in the province of Hida from here . In 1692 the Kanamomori were transferred to Kaminoyama in Dewa (now Yamagata Prefecture). In 1695 the castle on the Shiroyama was demolished and the city came under the direct administration of the shogunate. Many characteristic buildings date from this period, in particular the Takayama Jin'ya , the walled administrative center in the city, the best preserved of its kind in Japan. In 1937 Takayama received city status.
