Mino ( Japanese 美濃 市 , -shi ) is a city in the Japanese prefecture of Gifu .

history

The city of Mino was founded on April 1, 1954 and was previously called Mujiri-gun Kurichi-cho, or Kōzuchi.

Chiune Sugihara ( Japanese 杉原 千畝 ) is said to have been born on January 1, 1900 in Kōzuchi (today: Mino). He was a Japanese diplomat who, as the consul of the Japanese Empire in Lithuania, saved thousands of Jews during World War II . He became known as the "Japanese Schindler ".

The Japanese city of Yaotsu , on the other hand, claims that it is the birthplace of Chiune Sugihara and is applying for registration as a World Heritage Document with UNESCO for his performance, but the application raised doubts about Chiune's birthplace, which suggests that two handwritten notes may have been falsified from Chiune handle.
