Motosu ( Japanese 本 巣 市 , -shi ) is a city in the Japanese prefecture of Gifu .

Motosu is northwest of Gifu .
history
The city of Motosu was formed on February 1, 2004 from the union of the communities Itonuki ( 糸 貫 町 , -chō ), Motosu ( 本 巣 町 , -chō ) and Shinsei ( 真正 町 , -chō ), as well as the village of Neo ( 根 尾村 , - mura ) of Motosu County.
Attractions
The Usuzumi-Kirschbaum ( 淡墨桜 , Usuzumi zakura , literally: Light-ink-Cherry , 35 ° 37 '56.1 " N , 136 ° 36' 31.7" O ) in Usuzumi Park ( 淡墨公園 , Usuzumi -kōen ) is said to have been planted more than 1500 years ago during the reign of the Keitai - tennō (507-531). It belongs to the species Prunus subhirtella and is 16.30 m high (trunk: 9.91 m) and 26.90 m in east-west direction and 20.20 m wide in north-south direction.
