Sekigahara ( Japanese 関 ケ 原 町 , -chō ) is a municipality in Fuwa County in southwest Gifu Prefecture in Japan .
Sekigahara lies at an altitude of 123 m in the passage through a mountain ridge between Kansai and Chūbu, which has been important since ancient times .
history
The fateful Battle of Sekigahara took place here in 1600 . Sekigahara was the 58th post office ( 宿 場 町Shukuba-machi ) of the Nakasendō during the Edo period.
- July 1, 1889 : The village of Sekigahara-mura in Fuwa County is established.
- April 1, 1897 : The villages of Sekigahara-mura, Matsuo-mura, Fujishita-mura, Nakayama-mura and part of Aikawa-mura merge to form the new village of Sekihara-mura.
- April 1, 1928 : Sekihara-mura is renamed Sekigahara-chō.
- September 1, 1954 : The villages of Tama-mura, Imasu-mura and Iwade-mura from Fuwa County are incorporated.
- 2004 : After a failed referendum to join the city of Volksgaki , the city's mayor resigns.
- July 17, 2007 : The town hall moves to a new position.

Sekigahara is located in the southwest of Gifu Prefecture at the southeastern foot of Mount Ibuki .
Attractions
Sights are the old battlefield and the Sekigahara- Matsuri in March. There is also a sesame museum.

With the Sekigahara station, the community is connected to the JR Tōkaidō main line and with a motorway exit to the Meishin motorway .
