The Meishin Highway ( Japanese 名 神 高速 道路 , Meishin Kōsokudōro ) is the most important highway connection between the metropolitan areas of Kansai and Nagoya in Japan and runs from Komaki near Nagoya to Nishinomiya near Kobe . The Meishin motorway is of outstanding importance as the main artery for individual traffic between Kobe / Osaka and Kyoto , and in conjunction with the Tōmei motorway it serves as the main artery for individual long-distance traffic between the two largest metropolitan areas in the country, Kansai and Kanto . The Meishin goes over to the Tōmei at Komaki.
The first section of the Meishin Highway opened to traffic in 1963, making it Japan's first highway.
The term Meishin indicates the starting points of the highway by the initial character of the city name from Nagoya ( 名古屋 ) and Kobe ( 神戸 ) composed and regular Onyomi are spoken.
