Kaminoyama ( Japanese 上山 市 , - shi ) is a city in Yamagata Prefecture in Japan .

Kaminoyama is south of Yamagata and north of Yonezawa .
history
Kaminoyama is an old castle town where a branch of the Fujii Matsudaira with an income of 30,000 koku last resided until 1868. The remains of Kaminoyama Castle have been preserved.
Kaminoyama has been an independent city since October 1st, 1954.
