Okaya ( Japanese 岡 谷 市 , -shi ) is a city in the center of Nagano Prefecture on the Japanese main island of Honshu .

Okaya is located northwest of Kofu and south of Matsumoto on Lake Suwa in central Nagano prefecture and is considered an industrial city.
history
Okaya was founded on April 1, 1936 .

- Okaya Silk Museum : The museum, which opened in 1964, is still a reminder of the time when Okaya was a center of the silk industry in Japan. In addition to pictures and old machines from the silk factory, the museum itself houses an ongoing silk production by the Miyasaka Seishisho company in the main building of the museum. After the museum had moved, it reopened in August 2014 in the city center, not far from Okaya train station.
