Omi ( Japanese : 麻 績 村 , -mura ) is a village in Higashichikuma-gun in Nagano Prefecture on the Japanese main island of Honshu .

geography

Omi is located in the Chikuma Mountains between Matsumoto and Nagano . Omi has an area of ​​34.38 km² and 2,970 inhabitants (as of February 1, 2010). Mount Hijiri is in the village. The Hijiri plateau is designated as a nature park ( Hijiriyama kōgen kenritsu shizen kōen ) by the prefecture . Adjacent municipalities are the large cities ( shi ) Chikuma and Nagano and the villages Chikuhoku and Ikusaka , both of which also belong to Higashichikuma-gun.

history

The earliest evidence of the name Omi dates back to 1186. Omi was established as a modern administrative unit on April 1, 1889. On September 30, 1956, a neighboring village was merged with Omi. In 2005, Omi was also supposed to participate in the territorial reform that resulted in Chikuhoku. From 2002 to 2004 Omi participated in the conference, which should plan and prepare the amalgamation of the villages Honjō, Omi, Sakai and Sakakita to Chikuhoku. on September 12, 2004, however, Omi announced his resignation from that conference and that they were no longer willing to participate in the territorial reform. As a result, Chikuhoku was founded without the participation of Omi.
