Obuse ( Japanese : 小 布施 町 , -machi ) is a city in Kamitakai-gun in Nagano Prefecture on the Japanese main island of Honshū .

geography

Obuse is located in the north of the Nagano Valley in the northeast of Nagano Prefecture. 11,478 people live in an area of ​​19.07 km² (as of April 1, 2009). The extension of the administrative area is 5.7 km from west to east and 4.8 km from north to south. The length of the city limits is 20.4 km. Obuse is at Chikuma . Neighboring municipalities are the large cities ( shi ) Nagano , Nakano and Suzaka as well as the village ( mura ) Takayama, which also belongs to Kamitakai-gun .

history

There have been settlements in the Obuse area since the Heian period . As a modern administrative municipality, Obuse was founded as a village on April 1, 1889. On February 1, 1954, the city was appointed. On November 1st of the same year the neighboring village of Tsusumi was incorporated into Obuse.

traffic

The Nagano Line of the Nagano Electric Railway , at which the Obuse and Tsusumi stations are located, runs through the trolleybus.

The national roads 18 and 403 and the Jōshin'etsu motorway run through the trolleybus . There is no general junction, but you can drive onto the motorway at the Obuse motorway service station, provided you use the ETC toll collection system.

Educational institutions

In Obuse there are three kindergartens, a primary school and a middle school. All of these facilities are run by the city.

Attractions

There are a total of twelve museums in the trolleybus. Among these is the Hokusaikan, an art museum dedicated to the work of Edo period painter Katsushika Hokusai , who spent four years of his life in Obuse. It was opened in 1976.
