The most famous brands that are manufactured here are Ibanez and Fender .

history

The company was founded in May 1960 by Yūichirō Yokouchi ( 横 内 祐 一郎, Yokouchi Yūichirō ) and his friend Yutaka Mimura ( 三 村 豊, Mimura Yutaka ) in a former cowshed in Matsumoto in the Japanese prefecture of Nagano . First violins were made, soon afterwards they switched to classical guitars. The company's registered capital was 1,000,000 yen . In the following year, a new factory was built and the production of classic guitars in the upper price segment began. The company was then called Fuji Gengakki KK ( 富士 弦 楽 器 製造 株式会社 , English " Fuji - stringed instruments ").

From October 1962 electric guitars were also manufactured, from 1972 also for the brands Ibanez , Greco and Yamaha . A guitar synthesizer was developed in 1977 as a joint venture with Roland . In 1981 the production of acoustic guitars was stopped again.

Since April 1982 it has also been produced for the brands Fender and Squier .

In April 1989 the company name was shortened and the katakana spelling フ ジ ゲ ン was used instead of the Kanji 富士 弦 , following the example of other Japanese companies such as Yamaha or Honda .
