The Kiso ( Japanese 木 曽 川 , Kiso-gawa ) is a river on the Japanese main island of Honshū .
It is 229 km long and has a catchment area of 5275 km², but the entire river system is 9100 km². He gave the Kisokaidō his name, the western part of the old Nakasendō highway . The 13 km rapids between Minokamo (Gifu Prefecture) and Inuyama (Aichi Prefecture) are known as the "Nihon Rhine". The trip down the river, "Rhein-kudari", in long wooden boats steered by two boatmen is a popular summer pleasure.
