The Tokuyama Dam ( Japanese 徳山ダム , Tokuyama damu ) is a dam with a hydropower plant in Japan in the Gifu Prefecture, which was completed in 2008 . In addition to generating electricity, it is used for flood protection , water supply and irrigation. The barrier structure is a rock embankment dam .

history

In December 1957, the Ibi River was selected by the Electric Power Development Company for studies on the use of hydropower .
In May 1976 the Ministry of Construction issued the Bulletin "Principles of the Tokuyama Dam Project".
In December 1982 the project was reworked into a pumped storage plant with 400 MW.
In May 2000, work began on the main part.
In May 2004, the plan for the 400 MW pumped storage plant , which should start operating in 2008, was converted into a conventional storage power plant with 153 MW, which should start in 2014.
In September 2006, the trial construction of the reservoir of the Tokuyama Dam began.
In 2008, work on the dam's barrier structure was finished.
