The Alpensia Biathlon Center is a biathlon facility in Pyeongchang ( South Korea ).
history
From July 2006 to January 2008 a new biathlon stadium was built in Pyeongchang. The biathlon center is located in the Alpensia recreation and winter sports center . The stadium and other facilities were planned for the 2014 Olympic Games , but these were awarded to Sochi in July 2007 . The 2018 Winter Olympics were held in Pyeongchang.
Right next to the Alpensia Biathlon Center is the Alpensia Cross-Country Skiing Center where the competitions in cross-country and - with the investments of Alpensia Ski Jumping Stadium for - Nordic Combined are used. Each facility has its own functional building and its own routes, so that the competitions during the Winter Games could be held independently of one another and at the same time.
International competitions
The first international competitions took place in 2008 as part of the Biathlon World Cup 2007/08 , the first race was the men's sprint on February 27, 2008. Since the 2009 Biathlon World Championships were held in Pyeongchang, a year earlier - as in biathlon - World Cup usual - a World Cup held on the tracks of the World Championship. The World Championships took place between February 13th and February 22nd, 2009.
The 2013 Special Olympics biathlon competitions were also held at the Alpensia Biathlon Center.
As in preparation for the 2009 World Championships, a World Cup also took place in Pyeongchang in the 2016/17 season . A year before the 2018 Winter Olympics , athletes, coaches and supervisors were able to test the routes and infrastructure under competitive conditions.
