The Gangneung Hockey Center ( Korean 강릉 아이스 하키 I 경기장 ) is an ice rink in the South Korean coastal town of Gangneung .
The hall was one of two venues for the 2018 Olympic ice hockey tournament . All men's team games and medal decisions were held there. The sledge ice hockey tournament of the 2018 Winter Paralympics was held in the hall. As a test event, the Sledge Ice Hockey World Championship took place in Gangneung in April 2017.
In the run-up to the Olympic and Paralympic tournaments, the tournaments of the Ice Hockey World Championship for women in Division IIA and the U18 juniors in Division IIA took place in the new building between April 2 and 8, 2017 . In 2020 the U20 Junior World Championship of Division IIB will take place .
The cost of the four-story building, which began in July 2014, to 108 billion won (about 90 million US dollars ) estimated. Re-use is uncertain because ice hockey , unlike figure skating and short track , is not popular enough in South Korea. The organizers refused to relocate the ice hockey tournament to Seoul and are ready to demolish the hall if there is no further use. Demolition could cost an additional 100 billion won.
