The Gangneung Ice Arena ( Korean 강릉 아이스 아레나 ) is an ice rink in the South Korean coastal town of Gangneung . It was built for the 2018 Winter Olympics . It was inaugurated on December 14, 2016 as the first newly built venue. As a test event, a competition in the Short Track World Cup 2016/17 took place. It was the venue for the sports of figure skating and short track .

The Gangneung Ice Arena has two ice rinks (60 m × 30 m), one each for training and competitions. The building has four floors above ground and two floors below ground. An environmentally friendly cooling system for the ice was installed. After the games, the hall will be used by the population as a leisure facility.
