Speed skating rink
A speed skating rink (or speed skating hall , ice oval ) is an ice rink (sports facility) on which speed skating competitions can be held.
The train
A standard speed skating rink is defined by the rules of the International Skating Union (ISU). It consists of a track divided into two tracks, with two curves of 180 °. The radius of the inner curve must not be less than 25 meters and not greater than 26 meters. The inside lane must be four meters. The outside lane may be larger but not smaller than four meters. This results in the radii for the outer curve of a maximum of 30 and a minimum of 29 meters. Opposite the home straight is the changing straight (intersection area) where the athletes have to change when they come out of the curve.
For international competitions, the lane must be 400 meters long, with a warm-up lane that is at least four meters wide. A temperature-controlled hall with artificial ice is mandatory for the Olympic Games . These requirements have only changed slightly since the ISU was founded in 1892.
measurement
The track is measured half a meter from the inner boundary line (in the track). The total length of the lane (one lap) is the distance that a competitor has to run per lap. This includes two straight lines (crossing the alternating straight line causes a path that is approx. 7 cm longer), an inner curve and an outer curve. The boundary line is a 7 cm wide blue line made in the ice, which is equipped with not fixed red blocks.
Other types of railways
Differing from the standard tracks, tracks can also have other lengths. 200 meters, with an inner curve radius of 15 meters and a straight line of at least 40 meters, must not be undercut. An example of a non-standard rink is the 333.3 meter long Ostragehege ice rink in Dresden .

Semi-open speed skating rinks
The semi-open speed skating rinks, which are particularly widespread in the Netherlands , are tracks that have a roof over the spectator stands and the competition track. The inexpensive alternative to the hall provides protection from wind and weather. Low temperatures as well as rain and snow falling diagonally into the hall continue to influence speed skating, as is the case with an open-air track. In the course of time, some of the semi-open lanes in the interior were subsequently roofed over. So that the division into half-open and hall (cold) can change.

Open air tracks
Open-air tracks differ between those made of natural ice such as lakes, rivers or flooded areas and those made artificially by cooling systems. There are over 180 400 meter long open-air tracks that are used for training and competitions worldwide. Of these, 76 are made of artificial ice. This list is not exhaustive and shows a selection of artificial and natural open-air tracks.

Combinations with other sports
Few tracks are also built for bandy , such as B. Vikingskipet , Krylatskoje Ice Palace , and Medeo .
