The Uralskaya Molnija Ice Palace (Uralblitz) ( Russian Ледовый дворец Уральская молния ) is an ice rink in Chelyabinsk , Russia . The hall was named after the six-time Olympic champion Lidija Pavlovna Skoblikowa . The speed skater from Chelyabinsk Oblast ( Urals ) was nicknamed "Uralblitz".
The hall was built at the same time as the Kometa in Kolomna and the Krylatskoje Ice Palace in Moscow . The ice rink covers the entire field and offers space for versatile use. In addition to speed skating , ice hockey , bandy , figure skating , curling and short track are also practiced.
The first competitions were the Russian Championships in 2005 and the international World Cup opener in the 2011/12 season .
The Norwegian trio around Håvard Holmefjord Lorentzen , Kristian Reistad Fredriksen and Sverre Lunde Pedersen ran a junior world record in the team run at the World Cup opener . Over 8 laps they were only sixth with 3.47.45 on November 20, 2011 but below the junior record.
On February 15, 2013, a meteor fell over the city of Chelyabinsk , and in addition to the many injured, the hall was severely damaged.
