Hisonotus is a genus from the catfish family of armor catfish (Loricariidae) and the subfamily Hypoptopomatinae . There are around 30 species that are common in northern South America.

features

Hisonotus species are small, somewhat stocky armored catfish that reach body lengths of 3 to 6 cm and are reminiscent of the Otocinclus genus known from aquaristics . Characteristic of the genus is the belly armored with numerous, irregular bone plates. An adipose fin is always missing. There are no enlarged odonts (teeth) on the rostrum (snout).
