The Hypoptopomatinae are a subfamily of the South American armor catfish (Loricariidae). Their snouts are covered with many small bone plates, and in each jaw they have a number of double-pointed teeth. Cleithrum and Coracoid are broad and lie in the form of two bone plates between the pectoral fins. The anus is separated from the anal fin by one or more bone plates. The tail stalk is round or slightly compressed. For armored catfish, they have a relatively short intestine.
Genera
The Hypoptopomatinae are divided into two genera groups ( tribe ) with over 20 genera.
