features

Parotocinclus jumbo becomes a maximum of 5.8 cm long. The fish are marbled and able to change their basic color. On light sandy soils they can turn almost golden, on rocks or plant leaves they are more gray. The odontodes at the tip of their snout are spatulate, almost as long as they are wide and rounded or heart-shaped at the tip. The distance between the eyes is small, the eye diameter corresponds to 0.9 to 1.4 times the interpupillary distance. The profile of the top of the head and back increases sharply from the tip of the snout to eye level, and after the beginning of the dorsal fin runs almost straight, parallel to the longitudinal axis of the body. The first ray of the pectoral fins is not branched and consists of a hard and a longer soft section. There is a large unarmoured area around the anus.

Parotocinclus jumbo lives in shallow water with low currents on sand and rocky floors.
