The Whistler Olympic Park Ski Jumps are four ski jumps in the Callaghan Valley near the town of Whistler in Canada that for the ski jumping competitions at the 2010 Olympic Winter Games in Vancouver were built.
A World Cup competition was held on the large hill in the 2008/09 season as a dress rehearsal for the Olympic competitions. Gregor Schlierenzauer holds the current hill record with 149 m, which he jumped on January 25, 2009. The Finn Ville Larinto also jumped 149 m before, but could not stand the jump.
history
Award of Olympia and Construction (2003-2007)
In 2003 the 2010 Winter Olympics were awarded to Vancouver . A large and a normal hill should be built in Whistler for the ski jumping competitions.
Construction work on the two Olympic hills began in April 2004 and was officially opened on December 15, 2007. Both hills are not covered with plastic mattings.
The entire Nordic Center, which also includes the biathlon - and cross-country skiing include stadium, costing 65.8 million $ .
Inauguration, test competitions and Olympics (2007-2010)
On December 15, 2007 the inauguration of the ski jumps took place. At the end of February 2008 the first FIS Cups took place in Whistler, and a little later the first COCs . In the 2008/2009 season the test world cup took place on the large hill.
The highlight was the 2010 Winter Olympics .
After the Olympics (since 2010)
After the Olympics, the jumps were not used in the 2010/2011 season . At the end of the 2011/2012 season , a training camp with international participation took place here from March 23 to April 1, 2012. The highlight was the Canadian Ski Jumping Championships on March 30 and 31, 2012. In 2013 , the Canadian Ski Jumping Championships took place there again.
On January 22nd, 2014, the ski jumps were named the national training center for Canadian ski jumpers and Nordic combined athletes. In addition, two junior hills - one K 40 and one K 20 - were built in summer 2014.
International competitions
All jumping competitions organized by the FIS are named.
