Joshua Maurer (born September 20, 1996 in Germiston , South Africa ) is a Canadian ski jumper .
Career
Maurer made his international debut in October 2011 at a junior competition in Lake Placid . In February 2012 he started in Brattleboro for the first time in the FIS Cup . He reached the top 10 in the second competition. A year later, he made his debut in the Ski Jumping Continental Cup in Iron Mountain . He remained without points in all three competitions. In March 2013 he won silver in the junior class of the Canadian Championships. At the Nordic Junior World Ski Championships in 2014 in Val di Fiemme , he jumped from the normal hill to 62nd place.
In January and February 2015, Maurer started again in the Continental Cup, but again remained without points. Only in Kuopio in August did he manage to do this in both competitions. However, since it remained the only points until January 2016, he went back to Canada and started in Whistler as part of the FIS Cup. He was third on the podium for the first time. In September 2016, Maurer once again made it into the points in the Continental Cup in Lillehammer . Unfortunately he could not repeat this success in the following competitions. At the end of September he took part in the qualification for the Ski Jumping Grand Prix in Hinzenbach and made it into the competition. As the 44th he was eliminated after the first round. Back in the Continental Cup, until January 2017, he was mostly far behind the points in all competitions in round one. Only in Garmisch-Partenkirchen and later in Sapporo he was able to get points again.
At the Nordic World Ski Championships 2017 in Lahti , Maurer missed the qualification for individual jumping on the normal hill. In mixed team jumping on the same hill, he finished twelfth together with Natasha Bodnarchuk , Taylor Henrich and MacKenzie Boyd-Clowes . In the qualification for jumping on the large hill, he was disqualified like the Bulgarian Wladimir Sografski . The reason for this were deficiencies in the suits of the two jumpers.
