Wladimir Emilow Sografski ( Bulgarian Владимир Емилов Зографски ; born July 14, 1993 in Samokow ) is a Bulgarian ski jumper .

Career

Sografski's first international appearance was on February 17, 2007 in Zakopane in the FIS Cup . He finished 30th and thus reached the second round. The next day, he finished 43rd. At the Junior World Championships in Tarvisio (Italy) on March 15, 2007, he finished 62nd place. In the summer of 2007, the first appearances in the Continental Cup followed, but where he always clearly missed the second round. Also in the 2007/08 season he jumped mainly in the Continental Cup, but could never reach the second round and finished 54th in the individual and 13th in the team at the Junior World Championships in Zakopane. In the summer of 2008 he was able to achieve his best result so far in the FIS Cup with a 4th place. This summer he was also able to jump into the points twice in the Continental Cup. In the same season , Sografski participated in the ski jumping World Cup for the first time . Also in 2008 he won the Bulgarian ski jumping championships in his hometown. In the 2008/09 season he also jumped in the World Cup for the first time. His best placement was a 43rd place in December 2008 in Pragelato. At the Junior World Championships in Štrbské Pleso, he finished 58th. At the Nordic World Ski Championships in 2009 in Liberec, Czech Republic, he took 43rd place on the normal hill. Before jumping on the large hill, he contracted an illness and was therefore unable to jump. In the summer of 2009 he was able to achieve the best result of his career in the World Cup with 37th place in Klingenthal. In the next winter he was able to qualify twice for a jumping in the World Cup. In the Continental Cup he almost always made it into the second round this winter and even made it into the top ten three times. At the Junior World Championships in Hinterzarten on January 28, 2010, he surprisingly finished seventh.

At the start of the Summer Grand Prix 2010 , he scored 17th points for the first time in this series of competitions. At the second individual competition in Courchevel , he achieved his best result to date in the Summer Grand Prix with fifth place. Then he skipped the rest of the summer Grand Prix competitions, except for the last competition in Klingenthal. Here, too, he took the 29th World Cup points. In the end, he finished 33rd overall with 61 points. He also achieved good results in the Continental Cup . In Almaty he also reached the podium. Sografski came second twice. In the end he finished 5th in the overall summer ranking in this series.

On December 17, 2010, he won World Cup points for the first time in Engelberg with 28th place. Two days later he also won the 23rd World Cup points. He was also able to reach the finals of the Four Hills Tournament with 16th place in Oberstdorf and 19th place in Garmisch-Partenkirchen. In Innsbruck , however, he was disqualified and in Bischofshofen he missed the second round. At the Junior World Championships 2011 in Otepää , Estonia , he won the gold medal in the individual competition.

In the new season Sografski improved further and finished eighth in the World Cup on December 3, 2011 in Lillehammer for the first time a top ten place. In February 2012 he was elected Bulgarian young athlete of the year ahead of canoeist Boyan Michajlow and tennis player Dimitar Kuzmanov . On March 21, 2013 he set a new Bulgarian record in ski flying in Planica with a width of 213.5 meters . He finished the 2013/13 season with 183 points in 33rd place in the overall World Cup, which was his best result until then.

In the following years he could not confirm this achievement. From the 2013/14 to 2016/17 seasons he managed to make it into the top 30 only three times. Nevertheless, he won the gold medal in individual jumping on January 27, 2015 at the Winter Universiade in Štrbské Pleso, Slovakia .

Sografski took part in the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang . In the individual competition on the normal hill , he surprisingly jumped to 14th place, although his best result in the World Cup season so far was a 26th place in ski flying on the Kulm . On the large hill he missed the final as 35th. In the following summer season he achieved his best result so far in the Summer Grand Prix with fifth place in jumping on the Trambulina Valea Cărbunării in Râşnov, Romania, and finished this series in 22nd place. The following winter he reached 18th place in the 2018/19 Four Hills Tournament .

Wladimir Sografski was trained by his father Emil Sografski and Joachim Winterlich . In addition, he was advised by the former ÖSV trainer Alexander Pointner . In the 2019/20 season he was trained by Matjaž Zupan .
