Ville Andreas Larinto (born April 11, 1990 in Lahti ) is a former Finnish ski jumper .

Career

Larinto, who competes for the Lahden Hiihtoseura club , came to ski jumping at the age of four through his father, the formerly successful Jari Larinto . This subsequently also became his trainer. He made his debut in the World Cup on December 1, 2007 in Kuusamo , where he reached 36th place. In Engelberg he was 48th and 41st. In Oberstdorf he reached his first World Cup points in 29th place. At the Summer Grand Prix in Hinterzarten on July 26, 2008, Larinto and the Finnish team came in fifth. His best summer single placement was a sixth place in Liberec .

The 2008/09 World Cup season was the first season in which the Finn was part of the A-Team. This season he also took part in both the Junior World Championships in Štrbské Pleso , where he won the bronze medal in the individual, as well as the Nordic World Ski Championships in Liberec, where he was seventh from the normal and twelfth from the individual Large hill was. With the Finnish team he reached sixth place. Even before the season started, the Finn had drawn attention to himself when he won the Finnish championship on the normal hill in Rovaniemi , when he clearly left jumpers like Matti Hautamäki and Harri Olli behind.

His best individual placings in the World Cup are two second places, which he achieved on December 6, 2008 in Trondheim, Norway and on January 25, 2009 on the large Olympic hill at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver. When jumping in Vancouver he jumped like Gregor Schlierenzauer to the hill record distance of 149 meters, but could not stand the jump - in contrast to the Austrian.

The Finn won his first World Cup victory on November 29, 2008 with the team in Kuusamo.

At the beginning of the 2009/2010 season Larinto showed a weaker form than in the pre-winter, which led to the fact that he was removed from the World Cup team after the Four Hills Tournament. At the Finnish championships on the normal hill on March 27, 2010 in Rovaniemi , however, he was able to win the title.

The Finn won his first World Cup victory in an individual competition on December 1, 2010 in Kuopio. At the New Year's competition in 2011, he reached the absolute top distance of 140.5 meters in the first jump, but fell and tore a cruciate ligament, which meant that he was out for the rest of the season. At this point, Larinto was in the top five in the overall World Cup.

In the summer of 2011, Larinto injured his knee again just a short time after he had started jumping again, which required another operation. Larinto returned to the World Cup as part of the team competition at the Salpausselän kisat in March 2012 in his hometown of Lahti, although he did not get any top placements in the short remaining season. On December 8, 2012, he was 24th in Sochi, Russia , for the first time after his injury to win World Cup points. However, it remained the only points of the season.

At the Nordic World Ski Championships 2013 in Val di Fiemme , Larinto failed in both individual competitions in round one. In the end, he finished 42nd on the normal hill and 47th on the large hill. In the team competition it was enough for him and his teammates to finish eleventh. At the beginning of the following winter 2013/14 Larinto only started in the Continental Cup . After he reached the points in Lahti , he clearly missed them in Engelberg . In January he came back to the World Cup squad for two competitions, but got stuck again in Sapporo in the first round. Larinto could not qualify for the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi . In February he collected points again in the Continental Cup in Brotterode . In March he started again at the World Cups in Scandinavia and in Planica for the season finale . He made it into the points several times. He collected a total of 27 points, making him 65th overall in the World Cup. In the 2014/15 season Larinto started with two good finishes in on the Rukatunturi hill in Ruka ( Kuusamo ). In Nizhny Tagil he reached the 15th for the first time in many years the top 20. In February, he started at the FIS Nordic World Ski Championships 2015 in Swedish Falun . Larinto jumped from the normal hill to 47th place. After he did not start from the large hill, he and the team achieved ninth place in the team competition.

In the summer of 2015, Larinto started with good results in the Ski Jumping Grand Prix , but was unable to develop consistency and in the end only finished 53rd in the overall ranking. Larinto also got off to a weak start in the new 2015/16 season . Until the Four Hills Tournament he could not even place in the points. During the tour, he even missed qualification in Bischofshofen . It was not until a few days later in Willingen that Larinto managed to reach the points again for the first time. After he achieved a rather poor result in team jumping with the team in seventh place, he managed to jump into the top 20 again with 17th place in individual jumping. At the following ski flying world championship in 2016 , Larinto flew to 34th place. He also took seventh place in team flying with the Finnish team. In the other World Cups until the end of the season, Larinto again remained without points. At the Ski Jumping Grand Prix 2016 he only started one competition and won four points in Courchevel in 27th place.

In the 2016/17 season , Larinto did not start at all World Cups again. Although he also skipped the Four Hills Tournament in 2016/17 , he had already qualified for the 2017 World Championships in his home town of Lahti with two places in the points . After he was able to convince as tenth in the qualification for jumping on the normal hill, Larinto clearly missed an illustration of this performance with 26th place. Also from the large hill he finished in a strong seventh place in the qualification, but only ended up in 26th place in the competition. In the meantime, Larinto managed to achieve eleventh place in the mixed team jumping together with Susanna Forsström , Julia Kykkänen and Janne Ahonen . In the subsequent men's jump on the large hill, Larinto jumped to sixth place together with Jarkko Määttä , Antti Aalto and Janne Ahonen.

At the Finnish Summer Ski Jumping Championships 2017 in Lahti, Larinto won the title ahead of Janne Ahonen and Eetu Nousiainen .

Larinto sustained a knee injury (overextension of the cruciate ligament) in official training before the opening competition of the 2017/18 season in Wisła and will be absent for at least six weeks. After the 2017/18 season he ended his career as a ski jumper.

Private

Larinto graduated from Salpausselän lukio in Lahti in 2009 . In the same year he got engaged to Kia Rantalainen.
