Lindsey Van (born November 27, 1984 in Detroit ) is a former American ski jumper .

Career

Lindsey Van started alpine skiing at the age of seven . She tried ski jumping at the opening of the Utah Winter Sports Park in 1993. In the following years the American was able to achieve some good results in some FIS competitions. At the FIS Ladies Grand Prix 2003 she was third in the overall ranking behind Anette Sagen and Eva Ganster . In the following three years she was able to get second place in the overall ranking. Van was able to place in the top five of the first four events of the Women's Continental Cup , including in 2004/05 and 2005/06 second behind Anette Sagen. Her greatest success so far was winning the FIS Ladies Grand Prix 2007 , she also won a total of eight competitions in the Continental Cup series and was among the top 3 in a total of 44 competitions. She also won the bronze medal in the Jumping held as a demonstration at the 2004 Junior World Championships in Stryn , Norway . At the Nordic World Ski Championships in Liberec in 2009 , she secured the title as the first world champion in the history of women's ski jumping.

In 2004 she jumped her personal best of 171 meters on Vikersundbakken .

In 2009, Lindsay Van called for women's ski jumping to be included in the Olympic program. Together with other jumpers, she moved to the competent court in Canada, where the lawsuit was dismissed. With the introduction of a World Cup in women's ski jumping in the winter of 2011, Van came closer to her goal and was able to take part in the Olympic premiere of women's ski jumping in 2014 as one of three US jumpers . In the competition on the normal hill , she finished 15th. In training for the World Cup jumping in Râşnov , Romania , her cruciate ligament tore, which is why she had to end the season early.
