Karen Mok , born Karen Joy Morris , Chinese  莫文蔚 , Pinyin Mò Wénwèi (born June 2, 1970 in Hong Kong ) is a Chinese singer and actress . She has released over 20 solo CDs, appeared in more than 40 films and has over 36 million followers on the Weibo social media site ; she won the Golden Melody Award three times . She plays guzheng , oboe and piano.

Life

Mok is the granddaughter of Alfred Morris, the first principal of King's College in Hong Kong. Her brother is the writer and producer Trevor Morris. She went to school in Hong Kong and at the United World College of the Adriatic in Italy and then studied Italian literature at Royal Holloway, University of London .

After graduating, she returned to Hong Kong, where she began her film and singing career in 1993 and published numerous Chinese-language recordings. With increasing success she also made films in Hollywood, but there under her maiden name Karen Joy Morris. At the 2008 Olympics , she performed at the opening and closing ceremonies. In 2013 Mok released her first English-language album "Somewhere I Belong", on which she jazz standards a . a. reinterpreted by Cole Porter and George Gershwin .

Mok often went on concert tours internationally. The more recent ones are The original Karen Mok show (2011/2012), The Age of MOKnificence (2014/2015) and the world tour REGARDEZ (2015/2016). She was the first Chinese pop singer to give solo concerts in Madrid and Milan.

In 2016 and 2017 she appeared in reality TV series: “Up Idol” (我们 来 了), and two editions of “The Next” (天籁 之 战).

Karen Mok speaks English, Cantonese, Mandarin, Italian, French and German. Since October 1, 2011, she has been married to the German Johannes Natterer. Mok lives in London and Hong Kong.
