Frode Rønning (born July 7, 1959 in Trondheim , Sør-Trøndelag ) is a former Norwegian speed skater .

After Rønning was national junior sprint champion in 1976 and 1977, he first took part in the Sprint World Championship in Alkmaar in 1977 . There he took 14th place. A year later he won the silver medal at the Sprint World Championships in 1978 , where he won the second run over 500 meters. In the following years he stood on the podium three more times: Rønning won bronze in 1979 and 1981 and was world champion in the sprint all- around in 1981 .

In 1980 Rønning qualified for the first time for the Winter Olympics . At the event in Lake Placid he was fourth over 500 meters and was able to win the bronze medal over 1000 meters. Four years later, at the 1984 Winter Olympics in Sarajevo , he competed over the same distances and finished 7th and 14th. His third Olympic participation had Rønning in 1988 at the Winter Games in Calgary . Over 500 meters he reached 10th place, over 1000 meters he was 25th. Up to the end of his career in 1989 Rønning took part in international competitions and championships, but could not win any other titles.

After the end of his active career, Rønning worked as a trainer for the Norwegian sprint team.
