At the XX. During the 2006 Winter Olympics, there were two skeleton competitions. The venue was the Cesana Pariol railway near the village of Cesana Torinese , 97 kilometers west of Turin . It was 1435 meters long, had 19 curves and overcame a difference in altitude of 114 meters; top speeds of up to 130 km / h were achieved. The spectator capacity along the route was 7,000 (including 3,624 seats).

The Swiss Maya Pedersen-Bieri won the gold medal with ease. She set the best time in both races, was the only one to run a run under a minute, set a new track record and set a new speed record of 123.1 km / h.
