Kazuhiro Koshi

Kazuhiro Koshi ( Japanese 越 和 宏 , Koshi Kazuhiro ; born December 23, 1964 in Ōtaki , Kiso County , Nagano Prefecture ) is a Japanese skeleton driver .

Life

Kazuhiro Koshi, like his later club mate Hiroatsu Takahashi, studied sports science at Sendai University .

He made his international debut in 29th place at the 1993 World Championships in La Plagne . In December of that year he started in Winterberg for the first time in the Skeleton World Cup , where he was 23rd. In January 1995 he drove in Altenberg in tenth and in Igls in eighth for the first time in the top ten. In December 1999, he won his first World Cup race on his home track in Nagano . Two years later he won there again. In the 1997/98 season and again in 2000/01 Koshi was second in the overall World Cup, and third in 2002/03 .

At the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City , he finished eighth. Four years later he was eleventh in Turin . Koshi took part in the skeleton world championships thirteen times. Best place was a fourth place at the 2003 World Championships in Nagano. Between 1998 and 2001, 2005, 2007 and 2008 he was seven times Japanese skeleton champion. Having participated in 13 world championships and almost 70 world cup races, the Japanese is one of the most prominent active athletes in his sport.

In 2010, alongside Shinsuke Tayama and Nozomi Komuro, he was part of Japan's skeleton and bobsleigh selection at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver with Masaru Inada , who studied at the same university, as coach.

After finishing 20th in Vancouver, he announced his resignation.
