Mudanjiang ( Chinese  牡丹江 市 , Pinyin Mǔdanjiāng Shì , Manchurian ᠮᡠᡩ᠋ᠠᠨ ᠪᡳᡵᠠ, Mudan bira ) is a district-free city in the southeast of Heilongjiang Province in the People's Republic of China . The administrative area of ​​Mudanjiang has an area of ​​40,233 km² and about 2.76 million inhabitants (end of 2015). This corresponds to a population density of 68.1 inh / km². 790,623 people live in the actual urban settlement area of ​​Mudanjiang (2010 census).

history

Geographical location

The city is located on the Mudan Jiang River (牡丹江) and is surrounded by mountains. Mudanjiang borders on Qitaihe Prefecture to the north , Harbin to the west , Jixi to the northeast and the Yanbian and Jilin prefectures to the south . The Changbai Mountains in the east borders on the neighboring state of Russia . The city thus has a border crossing into the Russian Primorye region .

Mudanjiang Hongli Chemicals Co. is the largest chemical plant in Asia for the production of oxalic acid . Rubber production occupies a prominent position in the People's Republic of China.

A food factory collapsed on November 26, 2013

On November 26, 2013, nine people died when a roof structure collapsed in a food factory in the Aiming District. The roof collapsed at 1:10 pm local time as a result of a snow storm and the subsequent excessive snow load. At the time there were still nine people in the building who could only be found dead as a result of the rescue work.

Tourist destinations

The main attraction for tourists is Jingpo Lake (镜泊湖), which was created by volcanic eruptions millions of years ago.   • City of Ning'an (宁安市 Níng'ān Shì), 7,870 km², 440,000 inhabitants;
  • City of Dongning (东 宁 市 Dōngníng Shì), 7,368 km², 210,000 inhabitants;
  • Linkou district (林口县 Línkǒu Xiàn), 7,191 km², 450,000 inhabitants, main town: Linkou municipality (林 口镇).

Mudanjiang Railway Station (2008)

Mudanjiang is on the Harbin-Suifenhe railway line , which is crossed here by the Tumen-Jiamusi railway line . From here there are connections to Jinan , Dalian , Harbin , Changchun and Beijing . On December 25, 2018, the Harbin – Mudanjiang high-speed line was opened, reducing the travel time to and from the provincial capital Harbin to 1½ hours and thus to a third.

The city is connected to the international flight network with Mudanjiang Hailang Airport . The airport is the second largest passenger airport in Heilongjiang Province . It offers flights to the Chinese cities of Dalian and Beijing , as well as the South Korean cities of Incheon and Seoul .
