The Autonomous Prefecture of Yanbian the Koreans ( Chinese 延邊朝鮮族自治州 / 延边朝鲜族自治州 , Pinyin Yanbian Cháoxiǎnzú Zìzhìzhōu shortly 延邊州 / 延边州 , Yanbian Zhou ) is located in the eastern Chinese province of Jilin on the border with North Korea (DPRK). Its capital is Yanji . Yanbian has an area of 43,559 km².

At the 2000 census, Yanbian had a total of 2,209,646 inhabitants and a population density of 50.73 people per km². The approximately 800,000 Koreans are called Joseonjok - 조선족 Korean nationality .
