The Honghe Autonomous District of the Hani and Yi ( Chinese 红河 哈尼族 彝族 自治州 , Pinyin Hónghé Hānízú Yízú Zìzhìzhōu , Hani : Haoqhoq Haqniqssaq Haqhholssaq Ziiqziifzel; Yi : ꉼꉸꉳꆃꁈꆃꁈꊨꏦꍓ) is located in the south of the Chinese province of Yunnan . Its capital is Gejiu (箇 舊 市). Honghe has an area of 32,929 km². In 2016, Honghe had 4,681,000 inhabitants (population density: 142.15 inh / km²). The Honghe Hani Rice Terraces were recognized as World Heritage in June 2013 . The district was named after the Red River ( 红河 , Hónghé ).
Administrative structure
The autonomous district is made up of four independent cities , six districts and three autonomous districts . These are:
- City of Gejiu - 个旧 市Gèjiù Shì ;
- Kaiyuan City - 开远市Kāiyuǎn Shì ;
- City of Mengzi - 蒙自 市Méngzì Shì ;
- City Mile - 弥勒 市Mílè Shì ;
- Circle Lüchun County -绿春县Luchun Xiàn ;
- Jianshui County - 建水县Jiànshuǐ Xiàn ;
- Shiping County - 石 屏 县Shípíng Xiàn ;
- Luxi County - 泸西县Lúxī Xiàn ;
- Circle Yuanyang -元阳县Yuányáng Xiàn ;
- Honghe County - 红河县Hónghé Xiàn ;
- Jinping Autonomous County of Miao, Yao, and Dai - 金 平 苗族 瑶族 傣族 自治县Jīnpíng Miáozú Yáozú Dǎizú Zìzhìxiàn ;
- Hekou Autonomous County of the Yao - 河口 瑶族 自治县Hékǒu Yáozú Zìzhìxiàn ;
- Pingbian Autonomous Okrug of the Miao - 屏边 苗族 自治县Píngbiān Miáozú Zìzhìxiàn .
