The Changji Autonomous District of the Hui nationality ( Chinese  昌吉 回族 自治州 , Pinyin Chāngjí Huízú Zìzhìzhōu ; Uighur  سانجى خۇيزۇ ئاپتونوم ئوبلاستى / Sanji Huyzu Aptonom Oblasti ) is located in the north-central part of the Uyghur Autonomous Region of Xinjiang in the People's Republic of China . Its capital is Changji ( 昌吉 市 ). The autonomous district has an area of ​​73,660.41 km² and around 1.60 million inhabitants (end of 2016).

Administrative structure

At the county level, Changji consists of two independent cities, four counties and one autonomous county. These are:

  • City of Changji (昌吉 市 Chāngjí Shì), 7,981.13 km², 390,000 inhabitants, district capital;
  • City of Fukang (阜康 市 Fùkāng Shì), 8844.85 km², 160,000 inhabitants;
  • Hutubi district (呼图壁 县 Hūtúbì Xiàn), 9518.45 km², 210,000 inhabitants, main town: Hutubi municipality (呼图壁 镇);
  • Manas district (玛纳斯县 Mǎnàsī Xiàn), 9154.48 km², 170,000 inhabitants, main town: Manas municipality (玛纳斯 镇);
  • Qitai district (奇台县 Qítái Xiàn), 16,709.36 km², 230,000 inhabitants, capital: Greater Qitai municipality (奇 台 镇);
  • Jimsar district (吉木萨尔 县 Jímùsà'ěr Xiàn), 8169.86 km², 130,000 inhabitants, main town: Jimsar municipality (吉木萨尔 镇);
  • Kazakh Autonomous District Mori (木垒 哈萨克 自治县 Mùlěi Hāsàkè Zìzhìxiàn), 17,700 km², 90,000 inhabitants, main town: Mori municipality (木垒 镇).
