Altay ( Chinese  阿勒泰 地区 , Pinyin Ālètài Dìqū ; Uighur ئالتاي ۋىلايىتى Altay Wilayiti ; Kazakh التاي ايماعى Altay aymağı ) is a Chinese administrative district and belongs to the Kazakh Ili Autonomous District in the Uyghur Autonomous Region of Xinjiang . Altay has an area of ​​118,015 km², its capital is the Altay of the same name . At the district level, one city and six districts are subordinate to the administrative district:

  • the city of Altay (阿勒泰 市 Ālètài Shì),
  • the circle Qinggil (青河县Qinghe Xiàn), capital: greater community Qinggil (青河镇)
  • Jeminay district (吉木乃 县 Jímùnǎi Xiàn), main town: Topterek municipality (托普 铁 热 克 镇),
  • the district of Koktokay (富蕴 县 Fùyùn Xiàn), capital: the municipality of Ku Ertix (库 额 尔齐斯 镇),
  • Burqin County (布尔津 县 Bù'ěrjīn Xiàn), capital: Burqin Municipality (布尔津 镇),
  • Burultokay district (福海 县 Fúhǎi Xiàn), capital: Fuhai municipality (福海 镇),
  • Kaba district (哈巴河 县 Hābāhé Xiàn), capital: Akqi municipality (阿克 齐 镇).

At the census in 2000 Altay had 561,667 inhabitants, the city has 142,000 inhabitants (population density: 4.76 inh / km²).
