The city of Tacheng ( Kazakh :شاۋەشەك/ Шәуешек / Şәweşek) is an independent city in the Tacheng administrative district , part of the Kazakh Ili Autonomous District in the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region of the People's Republic of China . In 1999 it had 146,511 inhabitants.
