The Jimsar district ( Chinese  吉木萨尔 县 , Pinyin Jímùsà'ěr Xiàn ; Uighur جىمىسار ناھىيىسى, Jimisar Naⱨiyisi ) is a district of the Changji Hui Autonomous District in the north-central part of the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region in the People's Republic of China .

The district is located in the south of Djungary and north of the Bogda Shan Mountains . It has an area of ​​8,169.86 km² and has 130,000 inhabitants.

Its main town is the large community of Jimsar (吉木萨尔 镇).

About 12 km north of the city are the remains of the old ruined city ​​of Beiting ( Beiting gucheng yizhi , also Beshbaliq or Beshbalik ) from the time of the Han dynasty , which has been on the list of monuments of the People's Republic of China (3-217) since 1988 . Beshbaliq was the capital of the Uighur Kaganate and the Kingdom of Qocho . In the Mongol Empire it was at times the seat of one of the five parts of the empire, which included Khoresmia , Transoxania and the oases of Hami .

About 30 km east of the main town is the neighboring town of Qitai .
