The Bogda Shan (also Bogdo Ula or Bogdo-Ola Group ; Chinese  博格达 山 , Pinyin Bógédá Shān ) is a mountain range of the eastern Tian Shan in the Uyghur Autonomous Region of Xinjiang in the People's Republic of China .

The Bogda Shan extends over a length of 300 km in a west-east direction. The mountain range lies between the Djungarian Basin in the north and the Turpan Depression in the south. At the foot of the Bogda Shan, at its western end, is the city of Urumqi . The Bogda Shan reaches a maximum height of 5445  m in the western section in the summit Bogda Feng . The mountain range consists mainly of Precambrian and Paleozoic sedimentary rocks . The Bogda Shan has steep mountain slopes and mountain peaks of alpine character. There are individual glaciers and firn fields in the summit regions . The lower mountain regions are characterized by desert and steppe landscapes. In at altitudes of 1700- 2900  m there is a vegetation zone of grass and coniferous forests (especially on the northern slopes). At altitudes between 2900 and 3700  m there is a zone with bushes and alpine flora. Above this the snow line begins .
