Yanqi
The Autonomous District Yanqi of Hui ( Chinese 焉耆回族自治县 , Pinyin Yanqi Huizu Zizhixian ; Uighur يەنجى خۇيزۇ ئاپتونوم ناھىيىسى Yənji Huyzu Aptonom Naⱨiyisi ) is centrally located in the Xinjiang Uyghur Autonomous Region of the People's Republic of China . Administratively it belongs to the Mongolian Autonomous District of Bayingolin . The district has an area of 2,429.32 km² and around 120,000 inhabitants (end of 2004). In the census in 2000, 117,529 inhabitants were counted. The old Kingdom of Karashahr lay in the area of today's district . The famous temple ruins of Shorchuk are located southwest of the main district, the large community of Yanqi .
Administrative division and population
The autonomous district consists of four large municipalities and four municipalities. These are:
- Large community Yanqi (焉耆 镇), consisting of ten communities and a village, seat of the county government, 29,000 inhabitants (2000);
- Large community Qigxin (七个 星 镇), consisting of a community and nine villages, 12,629 inhabitants (2000);
- Yongning community (永宁 镇), consisting of two communities and eight villages, population 18,235 (2000);
- Large community Sishilichengzi (四十里 城子 镇), consisting of a community and five villages, 8,722 inhabitants (2000);
- Beidaqu municipality (北大 渠 乡), consisting of six villages, 9,026 inhabitants (2000);
- Wuhaoqu municipality (五号 渠 乡), consisting of a community and eight villages, 14,791 inhabitants (2000);
- Qagan Qehe municipality (查 汗 采 开 乡), consisting of four villages, 5,841 inhabitants (2000);
- Borhoi municipality (包 尔海 乡), consisting of five villages, 6,614 inhabitants (2000).
In 2000 there were also the residents of three state institutions in the district:
- State farm (for grazing livestock) Wangjiazhuang (王家庄 牧场) 1,221 inhabitants,
- Breeding farm for high-quality Suhai (苏海 良种 场) cattle, 1,555 inhabitants,
- Production and construction corps No. 27 (兵团 27 团), 9,895 inhabitants.
