Lüchun

Lüchun ( Chinese  绿春 县 , Pinyin Lǜchūn Xiàn ) is a district of the Honghe Autonomous District of the Hani and Yi in the south of the Chinese province of Yunnan . Lüchun has an area of ​​3,167 km² and has 210,000 inhabitants (2004).

Lüchun or Luchun?

For the character 绿, the readings l and lù are possible in Chinese . According to the information in the official "Catalog of Place Names of the People's Republic of China", the name of the Lùchūn district is read. This appears to be confirmed by an article on the Chinese-language website of the China Daily in 2006. On the other hand, this article contains an obvious error right next to the statement about the spelling of Luchun : As a further example of the reading of the character 绿, the name of the Luqu district in the province of Gansu is given with a wrong character (绿 曲 县 instead of correct 碌曲县) , which justifies fundamental doubts about the correctness of the statement.

In 2000 the "Great Lexicon of Place Names of the People's Republic of China" appeared, in which numerous spellings of the "Catalog" from 1994 were officially revised. Here the name of the district is now Lǜchūn . This is also confirmed by the official Chinese website "Administrative Division" in 2010. The Lüchun reading can now be seen as official, and the Luchun reading as out of date at best.
