Yuxi ( Chinese 玉溪 市 , Pinyin Yùxī Shì ) is a district-free city in the center of the Chinese province of Yunnan . It has a population of around 2,375,000 (2016).
Yuxi is located in the middle of a large tobacco growing area. The processing of tobacco is an enormous economic factor in the city and the entire area. The Hongta Group (cigarette production) has its headquarters in Yuxi and sponsors many events, construction projects, etc. in the city.
Administrative structure
At county level, Yuxi is composed of two districts , an independent city , three counties and three autonomous districts together. These are:
- Hongta District - 红塔区Hóngtǎ Qū ;
- Jiangchuan District - 江川 区Jiāngchuān Xiàn ;
- Chengjiang City - 澄江 市Chéngjiāng Shì ;
- Circle Tonghai -通海县Tōnghǎi Xiàn ;
- Huaning County - 华 宁县Huáníng Xiàn ;
- Yimen County - 易门县Yìmén Xiàn ;
- Eshan Autonomous Okrug of the Yi - 峨山 彝族 自治县Éshān Yízú Zìzhìxiàn ;
- Xinping Autonomous County of the Yi and Dai - 新 平 彝族 傣族 自治县Xīnpíng Yízú Dǎizú Zìzhìxiàn ;
- Yuanjiang Autonomous County of the Hani, Yi, and Dai - 元 江 哈尼族 彝族 傣族 自治县Yuánjiāng Hānízú Yízú Dǎizú Zìzhìxiàn .
