Pu'er ( Chinese  普洱 市 , Pinyin Pǔ'ěr Shì ) is a district-free city in the Chinese province of Yunnan . It is the former prefecture -level city of Simao ( 思茅 市 , Sīmáo Shì ), which was renamed Pu'er on January 21, 2007. On that occasion, the administrative center (Cuiyun Township) was renamed Simao Township and Pu'er Autonomous County was renamed Ning'er Autonomous County.

The administrative area of ​​the city of Pu'er has a total area of ​​45,385 km². It borders Myanmar , Laos and Vietnam to the south . Kunming , the capital of Yunnan Province , is approximately 550 kilometers from Pu'er City.
