Daqing ( Chinese  大慶 市  /  大庆 市 , Pinyin Dàqìng Shì , in earlier transcription also Taching ) is a district-free city in the Chinese province of Heilongjiang . The administrative area of the city of Daqing was created in December 1979 by amalgamating the cities of Datong , Honggang , Longfeng , Ranghulu and Sairt as well as four counties to form a city at the district level . The city of Daqing has 2.9 million inhabitants (as of 2010), of which 1.13 million are in urban areas.

The residents of Daqing live on an area of 22,161 km², which corresponds to the size of the state of Hesse , of which 5,197 km² are urban areas. The population density is 131 inhabitants / km². In comparison, there are 000000000000298.0000000000298 per km² in Hesse and 4,115 in Berlin 000000000004115.0000000000 . Daqing is best known for its oil fields and Mao Zedong's slogan : " Learn from Dazhai in agriculture , in Daqing's industry."

geography

Daqing is roughly in the middle between Harbin and Qiqihar and on average at 150 m altitude.

The urban districts of Daqing are geographically independent, closed urban settlement areas, or "cities", which are sometimes dozens of kilometers apart, but administratively - as with other district-free cities in China - form the city of Daqing as urban districts together with the districts and the autonomous district.

climate

Daqing has a Trans-Siberian climate. Influenced by the cold air from Inner Mongolia and the warm currents from the Pacific Ocean, Daqing has cool, snowy winters and windy spring and autumn. The annual rainfall is 445 mm, the average temperature 3.5 ° C (January -19.2 ° C, July 22.9 ° C).

economy

The Daqing oil fields are the largest oil production sites in the People's Republic of China . Discovered at the time of the Great Leap in 1959 , they are located between the Songhua Jiang and Nen Jiang Rivers . They originally contained at least 14 billion barrels of oil, other estimates even give up to 35 billion barrels. In 1963, mining began in Daqing. Approximately 1 million barrels / day has been extracted over the past 30 years and approximately 12 billion barrels have been extracted to date. Since 1998, production in the oil fields has been in decline ( peak oil ). Nevertheless, they still make up about 1/4 of China's oil production today. The efforts to halt the decline were correspondingly great. Since the water content in the oil produced continues to rise, the Daqing Oilfield Company decided in 2004 to reduce the production rate in the coming years in order to increase the service life of the field; see. "China's Oil Trio Domestic Exploration Cost Surge".
