Yichun ( 伊春 市 , Yīchūn Shì ) is a prefecture -level city in Heilongjiang Province in the northeast of the People's Republic of China . It is located on the Songhua Jiang River and had around 1.16 million inhabitants at the end of 2017.

Geography and climate

Yichun is located in the northeast of Heilongjiang Province and has a 246-kilometer border with Russia in the north ( Amur Oblast and Jewish Autonomous Oblast on the other side of the Amur ). Yichun administers a territory of 39,017 square kilometers and is bordered by the prefecture-level city of Hegang to the east, Harbin to the south, and Heihe and Suihua to the west .

Almost 87% of the territory of Yichun is covered with forest, 7.9% is arable land, 1% each is watercourses and lakes, built-up areas and meadows. There are 702 rivers on the territory of Yichun, some of which belong to the Amur and Songhua Jiang river systems . 218 of these rivers have a catchment area that is larger than 50 square kilometers. Along with Amur and Songhua, the 492-kilometer Tangwang He is the most important river in Yichun, and its catchment area is 20,557 square kilometers. The forests of Yichun are mainly deciduous and mixed forests with Korean pines , bristle spruces , firs , Dahurian larches , forest pines , Manchurian ash , Juglans mandshurica , Amur cork trees , poplar , linden , birch , elm and numerous bushes. In total there are 1390 species of higher plants in the forests, 492 are used in traditional Chinese medicine . Of the 67 vertebrate species and 274 bird species, 10 are protected at the highest level and 54 at the second-highest level.

The annual average temperature of Yichun is 1 ° C, in the north near Jiayin at 0.7 ° C and in the south near Tieli at 1.7 ° C. In the winter months of December, January and February the average temperature is around −20 ° C. In spring from March to May the average temperature is 3 ° C, in summer (June to August) at 19.2 ° C and in autumn (September to November) at 0.2 ° C. The annual amount of precipitation is around 600 millimeters, although it is somewhat lower in the north and south and somewhat higher in the center. Yichun receives around 2300 hours of sunshine annually. Winters are typically relatively dry with plenty of 20 millimeters of rainfall. About 90 millimeters of precipitation falls in the spring, 370 millimeters in the summers and 120 millimeters in the autumn.

As of the end of 2017, Yichun had a total population of 1,159,286 people in 559,969 households. This means a reduction in the population by 16,526 people compared to 2016. The population consisted of 575,072 men and 584,214 women. The 2000 population census showed a total population of 1,249,621 people in 419,243 households, of whom 636,128 were men and 613,493 women. The same population census found that there were 224,405 people under the age of 14, 939,973 people between the ages of 15 and 64, and 85,243 people over the age of 65 living in Yichun.

As of 2017, there were 24,853 members of national minorities living in Yichun; they made up 2.16% of the total population. Of the 31 minorities present in Yichun, the Manchurians , Hui , Mongols and Koreans each made up more than 1,000 people. There is one nationality community of Koreans, nine nationality villages of Koreans, three nationality villages of Russians and one nationality village of Oroqen .

Administrative structure

Yichun was established as a forest management zone in 1950, became a district in 1952 and a city in 1957. In 1964 it became a special area, in 1970 an administrative district and in 1979 it was given the status of a district-free city. Yichun's gross domestic product was 25.12 billion yuan in 2016, compared to 26.15 billion yuan in 2014 and 28.4 billion yuan in 2013. In 2014 the primary sector generated around 40.3% of the gross domestic product, the secondary sector around 26% and the tertiary sector around 33.7%. In 2014, the average income of Yichun city dwellers was 19,091 yuan, while that of rural residents was 11,368 yuan. The declines in the gross domestic product are mainly due to shrinkage in the mining sector and in the manufacturing industry.

In Yichun there are deposits of 45 raw materials such as coal , iron ore , copper , lead , zinc , molybdenum , tungsten , tin , titanium , gold , silver , limestone for the production of cement , marble and mineral water. 17 of these deposits are already being exploited.

Yichun is connected to the main road network of the People's Republic with the Hegang-Harbin motorway (G1111) and the national road 222 . In addition, the Nancha-Wuyiling railway line runs through Yichun. By road, the distance to the provincial capital Harbin is 354 kilometers, to Hegang 159 kilometers and to Jiamusi 237 kilometers. The distance to Harbin by rail is 458 kilometers. The Yichun airport began operations in 2009 and offers flights to Beijing and some cities in Northeast China. The accident on Henan Airlines flight 8387 occurred near this airport on August 23, 2010 .
